Their quoting tool went under

Trafalgar Scientific supply pharmaceutical-grade equipment to labs, research facilities and procurement teams across the UK. A significant part of their business involves customers who need formal quotes to put through their internal procurement software before they can buy anything.

They had been using Quotillio to handle this. When Quotillio's parent company went bankrupt, the tool died with it. They needed a replacement, and they needed it to be better than what they had.

Quotillio had integrated imperfectly with their BigCommerce store. The forms were poorly styled, the UI was low quality, and it reflected badly on a business that sells to professional buyers who notice these things.

The right foundation, with the right things built on top

Trafalgar needed two routes into quoting: customers who can generate their own quote without speaking to anyone, and customers who want to talk to the sales team about specific products or negotiate on price.

The system is built on top of BundleB2B, a B2B quoting platform for BigCommerce. BundleB2B handles the quoting engine. What it doesn't do out of the box is the two-route flow, the branded PDF generation with embedded checkout links, or the customised emails that look like they came from Trafalgar rather than a third-party platform. That's the layer I built on top of it.

The result is whitelabelled end to end. From a customer's perspective it's part of the Trafalgar site.

A quoting system built around how they sell

Customers can build a quote from the product catalogue, generate a formal PDF, and receive it by email with a direct checkout link. The sales team doesn't need to be involved.

For customers who want to negotiate or ask about specific products, there's a separate flow that sends the request to the sales team with full context. Both sit inside the same system.

Emails and PDFs are fully branded to Trafalgar. The system is also built to integrate with their wider internal systems as the business grows.

The sales team stopped doing work the system now handles

Before this, every procurement quote meant someone from the sales team had to get involved manually. Now most of them don't. Customers self-serve, get their PDF, and check out. The sales team deals with the work that actually needs them.

The system is live, actively used, and on a long-term support retainer. It's monitored automatically around the clock — if anything goes wrong, it gets sorted without Trafalgar needing to raise a ticket or chase anyone.
